Solar tempered glass is low-iron (ultra-clear) glass designed for photovoltaic modules. It is used as front cover glass for crystalline silicon modules and as front or rear glass for dual-glass (glass–glass) modules. The glass is fully tempered to provide the mechanical strength, thermal-shock resistance, and impact safety required for outdoor PV use.
Available thicknesses: 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, and 3.2 mm.
Available surface options: uncoated and AR-coated.
Processing options: silk-screen printing and hole drilling.
Light transmittance is a key optical parameter of solar glass. Higher transmittance increases the irradiance reaching the cells and supports higher module output.
Transmittance is verified against the agreed specification for each order. Final values may vary slightly with thickness, coating design, and silk-screen coverage.
Thickness tolerance is controlled per customer drawing and order agreement.
The glass supports high-temperature ceramic frit silk-screen printing before tempering.
Typical applications:
The frit is fired during tempering and forms a durable bonded layer suitable for outdoor module service. Pattern, color, and coverage are defined by the customer drawing.
Holes and openings can be processed before tempering, including:
Hole size, position, and edge finish are executed according to the approved drawing. All drilling is completed prior to tempering.
Uncoated
Low-iron ultra-clear tempered glass without AR film. Typical solar transmittance ≥ 91.5%. Suitable where AR coating is not required.
AR-coated
Anti-reflective coating applied as specified. Typical solar transmittance ≥ 93.5% – 94.0%. Reduces first-surface reflection and increases light available to the cells.
