Product Description

Solar PV Glass — Detailed Product Feature Description

1. Product Overview

Solar PV glass is low-iron (ultra-clear) glass manufactured for photovoltaic modules. It is used as front cover glass for crystalline silicon modules and as front or rear glass for dual-glass (glass–glass) modules. The product is fully tempered and can be supplied with optional AR coating, silk-screen printing, hole drilling, and finished edge treatments. Packaging is prepared for export shipment, including secure container loading and reinforcement.

2. Light Transmittance

Light transmittance is a core optical property of solar glass. Higher transmittance increases the solar irradiance reaching the cells and supports higher module power output.

Optical grade Typical solar transmittance Description
Uncoated (non-AR)
≥ 91.5%
Low-iron tempered glass without anti-reflective coating
AR-coated
≥ 93.5% – 94.0%
Tempered glass with anti-reflective coating to reduce surface reflection

Feature details

  • Substrate is low-iron ultra-clear glass to minimize inherent tint and absorption.
  • Uncoated grade is suitable where AR film is not required.
  • AR-coated grade is selected when higher optical efficiency is required.
  • Final transmittance is verified against the agreed order specification; actual values may vary slightly with thickness, coating design, and silk-screen coverage ratio.

3. Thickness Options

Standard thicknesses for PV module design:

Thickness Typical application
2.0 mm
Lightweight modules, thin dual-glass structures, weight-sensitive designs
2.5 mm
Intermediate strength–weight balance for dual-glass and standard modules
3.2 mm
Mainstream front cover glass for crystalline silicon modules

Feature details

  • Thickness is selected according to module structure, mechanical load target, and weight limit.
  • Dimensional and thickness tolerances are controlled per customer drawing and technical agreement.
  • All thicknesses are compatible with tempering and the optional processes listed below.

4. Coating Options (AR / Non-AR)

4.1 Uncoated Glass

  • No anti-reflective coating on the glass surface.
  • Typical solar transmittance: ≥ 91.5%.
  • Suitable for cost-controlled builds or processes that prefer an uncoated surface.

4.2 AR-Coated Glass

  • Anti-reflective coating applied as specified (one face or both faces, per order).
  • Typical solar transmittance: ≥ 93.5% – 94.0%.
  • Reduces first-surface reflection and increases useful light entering the module.
  • Coating adhesion and appearance are inspected after processing according to product specification.

5. Silk-Screen Printing

The glass supports high-temperature ceramic frit silk-screen printing before tempering.

Capability

  • White or black grid / mesh glaze for dual-glass rear glass
  • Edge masking and custom patterns per customer artwork
  • Print fired during tempering to form a durable bonded glaze layer

Feature details

  • Pattern, color, coverage ratio, and position follow approved drawings.
  • Printed frit is designed for outdoor PV service with resistance to normal weathering after proper tempering.
  • Silk-screened areas affect local optical appearance; coverage should be considered when evaluating overall module optical design.

6. Hole Drilling / Openings

Holes and openings are processed before tempering.

Typical openings

  • Junction-box cable holes
  • Mounting / positioning holes
  • Custom cut-outs per module design

Feature details

  • Hole diameter, quantity, and position tolerance are executed to drawing.
  • Edge quality of drilled holes is controlled to reduce stress concentration risk.
  • No post-temper drilling is performed, to avoid breakage risk associated with cutting tempered glass.

7. Edge Finishing — Arc Edge & Chamfer

Edge finishing improves handling safety, reduces edge stress, and supports module assembly fit.

7.1 Arc Edge (Rounded Edge)

  • Glass edges can be finished with a rounded / arc profile as specified.
  • Improves hand-safety during handling and reduces sharp-edge risk.
  • Supports smoother contact with frames, sealants, or dual-glass edge designs when required by drawing.

7.2 Chamfer

  • Chamfered edge treatment available on corners and/or long edges per drawing.
  • Helps remove sharp corners, improves packaging safety, and reduces chipping risk in transport and assembly.
  • Chamfer size and angle are defined by customer specification.

Note: Exact edge type (arrissed, ground, polished, arc, chamfer combination) is confirmed on the order drawing before production.

8. Export Packaging

Packaging is prepared for export shipment and long-distance transport.

Typical packaging features

  • Glass sheets separated with protective interleaving (paper / powder / separator as applicable)
  • Bundle or crate packing suited to glass thickness and size
  • Moisture-resistant wrapping and corner/edge protection
  • Clear packing labels: product type, thickness, quantity, size, and handling marks
  • Desiccant / waterproof measures used as required by destination climate and shipping route

Packaging method is adjusted to order size, destination, and whether the glass is silk-screened, coated, or drilled.

9. Container Loading & Reinforcement

For container shipment, loading and reinforcement are arranged to keep packs stable and reduce transit breakage.

Loading & securing practices

  • Even weight distribution inside the container
  • Packs positioned and braced to limit shifting during sea/road transport
  • Timber / steel bracing, belts, or airbags used as required for firm container reinforcement
  • Void spaces filled or blocked to prevent movement
  • Handling marks observed: fragile, keep dry, no tip / no stack beyond marked limit

The goal is a securely reinforced container load so glass arrives with intact edges, coating, and print quality.
