Product Description

AR Coated Tempered Glass For Solar Panel Backsheet

1. What is Solar Tempered Glass?

Solar tempered glass is a type of safety glass that has been heat-treated (tempered) to enhance its strength and thermal resistance. It is commonly used in solar panels, solar thermal systems, and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) due to its durability and ability to withstand high temperatures and mechanical stress.

2. Key Features

High Strength: 4–5 times stronger than regular annealed glass.

Thermal Resistance: Can endure extreme temperature fluctuations (e.g., from -40°C to 300°C).

Safety: Breaks into small, blunt pieces (not sharp shards) when shattered, reducing injury risks.

UV Resistance: Protects solar cells from degradation while allowing optimal sunlight transmission.

Optical Clarity: High light transmittance (typically >90%) for efficient energy absorption.

3. Applications

Solar Panels (PV Modules): Protects photovoltaic cells from weather and impacts.

Solar Water Heaters: Used as a cover to trap heat while resisting thermal stress.

Greenhouses & Skylights: Combines durability with sunlight transmission.

Building Facades (BIPV): Integrates solar energy generation into architectural glass.

4. Benefits Over Regular Glass

✔ Durability: Resists hail, wind loads, and thermal shock.

✔ Safety: Meets international safety standards (e.g., ANSI Z97.1, EN 12150).

✔ Longevity: Extends the lifespan of solar installations.

✔ Customizability: Available in varying thicknesses (3mm–10mm+) and coatings (anti-reflective, textured).

5. Limitations

Cannot be cut/drilled after tempering (must be shaped beforehand).

Higher cost than annealed glass but justified by performance.

6. Industry Standards

Tempering Process: Heated to ~620°C then rapidly cooled for compressive strength.

Certifications: UL 1703 (solar panels), IEC 61215 (PV module safety).
